Project Homeless Connect

Northern New Jersey Business Volunteer Council (BVC) would like to thank our member companies Community Bank of Bergen County, Five Star Premier Residences and law firm Cole, Schotz, Meisel, Forman and Leonard, PA, for participing in Bergen County’s “Project Homeless Connect.” They sponsored and served breakfast to 200 homeless clients of the Bergen County Housing, Health and Human Services Center in Hackensack. We truly appreciate your dedication to civic responsibility in our community!

Read Across America Day and Books in a Bag

In honor of Theodore “Dr. Seuss” Geisel’s March birthday, employee volunteers from Community Bank of Bergen County, Five Star Premier Residences of Teaneck, Henderson Associates, State Farm, Sigma Group of Oradell, TD Bank ,and the Volunteer Center of Bergen County donned red and white striped “Cat in the Hat” headgear and read to hundreds of children at the YMCA in Hackensack, Quarles School in Englewood and the Muscarelle Center in Garfield.  Employees from BD donated over 100 books and read to the students at Children’s Aid and Family Services in Paramus. The Read Cross American Day celebration kicks off the BVC’s annual Books in a Bag program to promote early literacy.

Books in a Bag is a campaign to collect new children’s books for pre-school and kindergarten students from low-income families.  As families struggle to pay for rent, utilities, and food, books are far down on the list of must-have items. The BVC is currently collecting NEW children’s books and invites all interested companies to get their employees involved in this exciting outreach effort.

BVC News

  • Hurricane Sandy Recovery

The Volunteer Center of Bergen County is the coordinating agency for the Bergen County VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters). In this role, we are helping to mobilize volunteers, nonprofit agencies, and government agencies that are responding to the disaster. Realizing that the recovery process is going to be lengthy, the group has evolved into a Long Term Recovery Committee with a focus on case management and reviing Bergen County. Thus far the VOAD has received grants from the Governor’s Fund as well as the Robinhood Fund.

We will keep our BVC companies updated on volunteer projects for corporate groups. We also recommend that corporations check Jersey Cares or New York Cares, which are also affiliates of HandsOn Network.

Click to access the Volunteer Center's Hurricane Sandy website, Facebook page, and twitter for information on what your company can do.
